Paula – Present Company
Tell us about your business. What services do you provide?
We do ladies clothing, glassware, items for new babies, jewellery, handbags, and toiletries. We also sell gifts for men, provide a gift wrapping service and gift vouchers, and we offer advice on ideas for presents.
How did you start your business? What’s the story?
The lady that owned the business previously is my twin sisters best friend and she text us to say that she was selling the business and would we be interested in buying it. It’s not something that we’ve ever done before but we both felt like it was an exciting challenge. However because it was during covid and we were into the second lockdown we actually said no and walked away as it was a huge risk. Then in the new year she contacted us again and asked if we wanted to rethink about it, and we decided that we would go for it.
What is the best thing about running a business in Clevedon?
It’s really lovely running this business, and getting such nice feedback from people about the lovely things we have in the shop. They like the fact that they can just walk in and nearly always find a present for someone. Also, we build up a relationship with our customers as we get a lot of repeat business. It means the customers learn to trust us. This is especially important when they try on clothing, and if they are not sure we can reassure them that it does suit them.
Present Company is on Station Road, and is open 9am – 5pm Monday – Saturday.
