Doris Hatt

Doris Brabham Hatt (24 September 1890 – 27 August 1969),  a painter and printmaker, was a pioneer of Modernism in Britain.

Doris used to live in Clevedon at Littlemead on Valley Road with her partner, Margery Mack Smith, who was a local school teacher and weaver. She was an artist, a feminist, a committed socialist and part of the New Woman and Women’s Suffrage movement. See more on the dedicated Facebook page, The Doris Hatt Society
Copies of Doris Hatt: Revolutionary Artist, the lavishly illustrated softback book, originally printed in 2019 to accompany an acclaimed exhibition of Doris Hatt paintings at the Museum of Somerset in Taunton, are available to purchase in the Clevedon Community Bookshop.  Organised by the Clevedon Literary Festival, this reprint celebrates this modernist forward-thinker who lived in Clevedon for nearly 50 years until her death in 1969.
