Tech Tuesady’s Repair Café
Every week at The Nerd Herd Repair Café, based at The Old Inn on Walton Road in Clevedon, we open the doors for people to bring along their troublesome tech and have a proper chat about what is going wrong.
It’s not just computers; the nerds have fixed everything from DJ turntables to a turn-of-the-century cuckoo clock, from 1960s transistor radios to 1980s train sets. The Nerd Herd Repair Café is about far more than just laptops and phones. We welcome unusual gadgets, vintage electronics, and even mechanical devices that deserve a second chance.
Whether it is a slow laptop, a desktop that refuses to start, a printer causing chaos, an old games console, a media device, networking issues, upgrades, data recovery questions, old radios, record players, hi-fi systems, VHS players, clocks, cameras, or just general “why is this doing that?” moments, we are here to help.
Our volunteers give up their time every single week to help others, offering practical repairs, honest advice, diagnostics, upgrades, and sometimes simply helping people understand what they have and whether it can be saved. We believe in Repair, Reuse, Recycle and keeping good equipment out of landfill wherever possible.
While you are here, you can also browse our Deal of the Day laptops and refurbished systems, always available at excellent prices. Many people come in for advice and leave having found the perfect machine for home, work, study or gaming.
It is also a chance to talk tech, explore STEM education, and watch our STEM volunteers working hands-on with electronics and you can even buy the fruits of their labour to help fund our work – this is one of our young Nerd appentices favourite moments when someone goes home wiht one of their creations. You can watch while the team conduct repairs, diagnostics and practical problem solving. For young people especially, it is a great opportunity to see real skills in action and ask questions about computing, engineering and how things actually work.
You can also find out more about our wider projects, including our Media Lab, where we preserve memories by converting VHS, Betamax, cinefilm, camcorder tapes, slides, negatives and photographs into modern digital formats.
The best part is that while we work on your device, you can relax and enjoy the fantastic food and beverages at The Old Inn in a warm, friendly atmosphere.
Good conversation, good coffee, and hopefully a fixed device by the end of it.
