LIVE POETRY WITH MARVIN THOMPSON AND SAILI KATEBE + Q&A – CLEVEDON LITERARY FESTIVAL
Join the Curzon Clevedon, in partnership with Clevedon Literary Festival – More Than Words, as they host an evening of live poetry with this year’s National Poetry Prize winner Marvin Thompson. Plus special guest and host, Saili Katebe from Bristol’s Raise The Bar.
‘A startling poem with allusions to a rich range of subjects ranging from Salvador Dalí and the Bible to an abused footballer, a revered hip-hop band and the Welsh language has won a prestigious literary award.
The Fruit of the Spirit is Love (Galatians 5:22) by Marvin Thompson, a school teacher in Wales, was judged the best from more than 18,000 poems entered into the National Poetry Competition by more than 7,000 writers from 95 countries.’ – The Guardian
Saili Katebe is a Zambian-born, Bristol-based performance poet. In 2019 he was the Artist in Residence at the SS Great Britain, having collaborated with them again this summer, on Iron Island. Saili is also a BBC Poetry Slam runner-up, and a Milk Poetry Superslam winner.
‘Saili’s work is profoundly personal, skilful and abundant with narrative and raw feeling. His creative energy is laced with hope and a sense of possibility. He draws on his rich heritage and experiences as a black person living in rural England to craft stunning poems that are moving and vibrant on both the stage and the page.’ Irisi Magazine
