The Curzon Cinema continue their fundraising to repair the damage to the roof with the launch of their new campaign, “Art On The Tiles”
Cinema lovers, film buffs and those who appreciate the history of such an iconic building will be able to purchase old tiles from the roof of the Curzon with a unique twist.
The local community have been coming together in fantastic fashion by attending fundraising events and contributing to the “tag a tile” campaign, where for a donation of £10, you can write whatever you like onto one of the new tiles for the roof and leave a piece of yourself in the heart of the cinema.
Despite repairs over the years, rain water has been coming in and damaging this unique building and the situation has become serious. The ornate tin panelling, which reaches throughout the building and is the most complete example known to survive in England, is rusting and deteriorating. Their collection of nearly 500 cinematic artefacts, some of which are incredibly rare, is in peril. The situation is critical. The restoration work needed is critical. All of the old tiles will be replaced with 12,833 new tiles, as well as major reconstruction to the roof. This auction is a key part of the campaign to save the Curzon from closure.
You can donate at anytime as you walk past the cinema at their contactless donation point by the front doors. Alternatively, you can text message a donation with the numbers above.
