Tell us about your business. What services do you provide?
We’re a mobility shop, and we sell everything and anything to do with helping people with disabilities.
How did you start your business? What’s the story?
I had a 10 year career in interior design, got made redundant a couple of times so I thought I needed to make a change. The first job interview I went for was medical sales, and I got the job. I worked for them for 7 years, and during my time in this job I used to visit mobility shops and I quite fancied it. So I then took a job managing 6 mobility shops, to see if it really was something I wanted to do. I started to research the best place to have a shop. Clevedon actually came up as one of the highest density of elderly population in the country. That’s not the biggest number, but the most in a small area. I thought it was a good place to open, and I was really surprised there wasn’t a shop already here. That was 20 years ago, and we have been here ever since.
What is the best thing about running a business in Clevedon?
For me it’s the right place for my shop, it’s a quirky place, and I really get to know my customers.
Better Mobility is on Station Road, and is open 9.30am – 4pm weekdays, and 9am – 2pm on Saturdays.
