Tracey – AYS Dry Cleaning
Tell us about your business. What services do you provide?
We provide all sorts of dry cleaning services, including laundering, duvet cleaning, wedding dress cleaning, rug cleaning, and alterations. Everything really apart from suede and leather, they are more specialist.
How did you start your business? What’s the story?
I worked for Johnsons for 20 years, I was the manager there for 12. I moved around from shop to shop, and the shop in Clevedon had a lady go off on long term sick, so I came from the Clifton branch to help. In 2012 Johnsons had to shut 100 shops, and I said to the girls working in the Clevedon branch ‘don’t worry this one will be fine’, but sadly because the lease was too high they closed it. So I decided to open on my own, found this empty unit and bought all the equipment I needed from Johnsons. And then I took the girls on that got made redundant.
What is the best thing about running a business in Clevedon?
The people are nice, they’re really kind. There’s a real variety of ages that come in and use us. The older generation mainly use us for the laundry side, their sheets and duvet covers. And we do a delivery service, where we collect from people and bring it back to them if they can’t get in to us.
AYS Dry Cleaning is on Kenn Road, and is open from 10am – 4pm weekdays, and 10am – 2pm on Saturdays.
