Welcome to our blog series, telling the stories behind the businesses in Clevedon.
Today we meet Natalie from AKASA Dance and Yoga, who is marking her second year of her business.
Tell us about your business. What services do you provide?
I teach a variety of friendly and light-hearted classes including: gentle yoga, chair yoga, yoga, pregnancy yoga, baby and me dance and yoga, dancefit, and style it.
I also provide one-to-one yoga sessions, corporate yoga packages, dance workshops for both children and adults and host yoga and essential oils day retreats. Weekend retreats incoming!
How did you start your business? What’s the story?
My love for dance started with ballet classes when I was just three years old and I continued this passion for dance when studying for my degree. Having completed my PGCE, I’ve loved teaching dance at secondary school level for the past 12 years. However, I felt drawn to starting a new venture – something to call my own. Two years ago I started my small business initially with just DanceFit and Style It classes. Overtime I have grown and expanded my offerings into to include a variety of yoga classes having loved the practice for many years. I absolutely love seeing people finding so much joy in movement and being part of a community where everyone can be themselves, feel alive in their body and connect with those around them.
What is the best thing about running a business in Clevedon?
Clevedon is my home and I love teaching here. My first dance classes as a child were at Clevedon Community Centre and I love that I now teach dance in the very same room over 30 years later – it still smells exactly the same! After my Tuesday ‘Style It’ classes in the summer, we all cool off with an evening swim in the marine lake together. Clevedon has it’s own special charm, its own sense of connection with wonderful people and beautiful sunsets – how lucky are we?!
Thank you to everyone that has supported me, I am grateful beyond words. To those new to the AKASA movement, come and celebrate my 2nd birthday with me with two free classes – it’s time to try something new!
