Cafes and restaurants in Clevedon are offering free meals to children in need over the October half-term, following a high-profile campaign started by the footballer Marcus Rashford.

Free school meals are provided in term time to the children of parents who are on a range of benefits or meet certain other criteria – and that continues to be the case. Marcus Rashford has been campaigning for free meals to be provided for the same children in England during the school holidays too, with an online campaign to keep the scheme running through the holidays.

Earlier this week, MPs voted not to extend the free school meals scheme in England. In response, a number of local businesses in Clevedon are welcoming those in need this half term.
